the mundane

I tend to only get around to posting when something actually happens (ie a holiday or special event). I don't want to mislead you into thinking that our lives are all glitz and glamour so I suppose I should try and write some of the day to day humdrum as well.
David is still working. Mostly driving either to edmonton, Calgary or kelowna and back once or twice a week. I don't like him being gone for days at a time but we are trying to make as much money as we can before the baby arrives. The baby is due early June and David will stop working then and stay home with myself and the littles for the summer. In September he starts at BCIT. He will be taking a paternity leave as I am not eligible for a maternity leave (not working and all) so we should get a small amount of money every month from that. Beyond that...who knows. Hopefully the good tax paying citizens of Canada will kick some funding down to us lowly unemployed parents. But we will see.

I am 5 weeks away from my due date (whaaaaaaaa?!?!?). So as the day draws near David will stop going to edmonton/ Calgary and as we get super close he will probably stop leaving town all together and just go some local city stuff. I really don't want to go into labour with david stuck 18 hours away.

Henry has been playing out in the garden every day. He loves carrying around his little trowel and tiny plastic watering can. He is really a little worker. He is very focused and loves doing chores. He sees how my mom waters and he folows behind her pouring water from his can onto each plant. When anyone sweeps he grabs the dust pan, has you fill it with debris then goes out onto the deck and pours the dust over the side...it's actually kind of helpful. He also LOVES the dishwasher. He pulls all the cutlery out one by one and hands it to whosever is assisting him (unless he find something interesting like tongs or a whisk then he will retreat to the living room to play with it). His desire (he whines and yells when he isn't allowed to help) is pretty cute, but usually not very helpful. I regularly remind myself that the urge to help and be useful is something that should be fostered not squelched so we always try to accommodate his "helping" as best we can.

Henry is helping me look for a recipe by pulling out every cook book we have.

I found some cutlery Henry had put away while helping to unload the dishwasher.

Some mommy and Henry time. We spend a lot if time hanging out together when David is gone on a trip.

And an early morning selfie with a way too bright flash.

Easter

Easter!
A time for rabbits, chocolate and ham (that is what Easter is all about right ???).

We went to my auntie Alexa's house for a lovely ham dinner. David prepared 15 individual creme brûlée in a very ambitious dessert offering. He spent a couple hours preparing these delicate little desserts the day before then did a very impressive blow torch show in Alexa's kitchen before serving. David is a wonderful cook, and the creme brûlée turned out beautifully but he did forget to bring the extra propane (or whatever it is that makes a blow torch work) and we got desperately close to running out before all the cremes were properly brûléed. He also used the blow torch from my dad's garage as he claims the cute little culinary blow torches just don't stack up. It went well, people were just served some suspense and panick (I saw Alexa's face as David's flame danced over her new countertops) with their desserts. All and all a good meal and a great dessert.
I didn't take any Easter pics :(
I'll see if hunter has any as Henry was looking tres cute as usual. I put some gel in his hair so he was looking pretty trendy and grown up.

Yes I am still pregnant

Phewf.... now that I'm all caught up and have had the weight of bloggers guilt lifted from my shoulders I can proceed with my mundane day to day type posting.

I am still pregnant. I try to forget it...and it may have, understandably, slipped your mind also due to my almost total lack of photos and going on about such things.

I have not taken a single "baby bump" photo this pregnancy as I dispise such things but it is on my to-do list. And as it is rather time sensitive I should probably get around to it.
I was looking at Henry's baby book (which I am still filling out as he is still a baby) and I saw some baby bump type pics from my first pregnancy and I have to admit they are nice to look back on.
I also cracked the new baby book for baby #2 and there are designated "mommy and me before I was born" type photo slots...so yes I will get to it.

My pregnancy is progressing slowly but without majour complication. The complication is usually Henry and the fact that with a 14month old in the house it's hard to get all the lazy, relaxing, napping type of time I would like (or any). Also lifting him and carting him around is absolutely killing my back. And in the last couple weeks I have started to have pretty dire SI joint pain which has been getting progressively worse. It has gotten I the point where it is really painful to walk....and to walk while carrying Henry is almost impossible. I am seeing a massage therapist and a physio so I am hoping it will get a bit better.
But other than that mommy and baby are doing well.

I am facing what has proven to be a very difficult decision between a VBAC and a repeat Csection. Neither option is a very happy one and both are with their own pros, cons and risks. I have been wrestling with it for months and as of today am still undecided.

AND we have picked a name!!!!
After much discussion over names and much disagreement we have finally settled on our winner....

Benjamin David Bird

So there it is. Embroider it on a pillow, tattoo it on your arms for that will be my second sons name.

and a cute pic of Henry to finish this off because I know that's what you all visit to see :)

Photo dump!

Ok. So after resolving to blog once a week here I am 2 months later. I'm not sure this blogging thing is really for me but David assures me it's better late than never. When I go too long without blogging I get more and more overwhelmed with the number of photos and thrilling events that simply must be posted so it becomes less and less likely I will ever tackle my mountain of un-blogged tidbits. My solution?  Photo dump!

We went to Harrison Hot Springs and we loved it!  No joke. It was such an awesome little family getaway we will most certainly go back.

Climbing on the couch admiring our March snowfall

On a walk at a creepy steamy swamp that David has been wanting to check out near Belcara. We didn't make it very far, I could blame the toddler...but really is was super-pregnant mommy who pulled the plug.

"Please please please can I get this car?!?!"  Unfortunately we are broke so no- fortunately Henry is young so we convinced him that sitting in it in Costco was pretty much the same as buying it.

Henry LOVES being outside and demands to go out to play everyday regardless of weather. Thank goodness for a MuddyBuddy.
His hands were red and raw by the time we got him back in the house but he didn't seem phased.

Assorted "outside playing" photos.

As you can see the warm sunny weather has brought much joy to my outdoor loving little man. But with the highes come the lows and unfortunately our front yard has stairs made of concrete pavers.  Henry usually calls me (aka screeches) when he wants to walk down the stairs so I can come hold his hand but this time a noisy crow caught his attention and he walked right off the edge.
He had some pretty impressive facial road rash that has lasted for days and days...he thinks it makes him look pretty tough.
